Repatriation
We have many years experience in helping families repatriate their loved ones home. We liaise with all the relevant authorities and guide you through the required documentation which may differ slightly for each country. We visit Embassies or Consulates where necessary, book airline transportation and liaise with the destination funeral director to ensure a smooth a dignified journey home.
The death must be registered in the normal way and the registrar will issue copies of the death certificate on request. In this instance we will need a copy of the death certificate which will accompany the deceased on their journey. The registrar will inform the coroner of your intention to take the deceased out of the country.
Birmingham and Solihull coroner requires the completion of a document which can be obtained from us, and sight of the deceaseds passport if they have one. The coroner also requires the person who is arranging the repatriation to attend her offices with suitable identification, preferably a passport. Once the coroner is satisfied that all is in order, a Coroners Out of England Certificate will be issued. We need this before any provisional arrangements can be confirmed.
As always individual circumstances can differ so please call at an early stage and we will guide you through the process.
Cremated Remains Repatriation
Repatriation of cremated remains is usually much simpler in terms of the documentation that is required. Some countries require little or no additional documentation other than that issued by the crematorium. Indeed, the cremated remains can be carried as hand luggage onto the plane. Other countries are far more strict and require ashes caskets to be sealed with wax at the Consulate. With this in mind I would urge you to check before you travel.
Due to the irreplaceable nature of cremated remains we strongly advise against posting or using couriers for repatriation. Where possible we would always suggest they are taken personally. We will happily retain cremated remains at no charge until suitable arrangements are made.
